...I think it's time to get supicious when my kids have been fighting ALL day and suddenly, they've picked me flowers and emptied out the garbage cans. Oh, and they took it out to the end of the road...

Belly Shot

Pocket Change

Our air conditioner is broken. We had it set at 69 all day yesterday and by supper time it was 78 in here, so we guessed there was a problem. The nice air guys who put scratches in our floor when they were here during construction showed up to look at it, and figured out that a compresser, or some such thing, has gone out. To replace this particular part is like $600 something, but since it's still under warranty, all we have to pay for is labor. "All said and done, it'll only cost $224!!!" Not exactly pocket change for us, but okay. Our home was built only 2 years ago, and since these parts usually last A LOT longer, according to the air guy, then am I rational in saying that since it shouldn't have gone out so soon, that I shouldn't have to pay someone to replace it when it does go out? Just a thought...we do need to fix it though, since I may be getting really crabby soon, what with this growing belly of mine:0)

On a positive note...Jason and I are going out tonight! We don't know when or where yet, I guess we'll be spontaneous. We do have to pick up a bassinet we found on craigslist...the deal of the year. Our bassinet is put together with rivets instead of screws, so it can't be tightened, and it's been through our other 3 kids, so it's really wobbly and we felt it was time for a new one. We looked on line at Baby's R US, and found many beautiful bassinets for 150-200 bucks. Not really what we want to spend. SO, we checked out craigslist and found a white eyelet bassinet that said best offer. Not wanting to offend anyone and offering like $20, I e-mailed her asking what she was hoping to get.....$10-15! She said she'd sell it to us for $10, which is pocket change for us! So other than picking that up, only time will tell what we have in store for us tonight.

Mom came over yesterday and we worked on organizing/cleaning our horrendous basement. We got a lot accomplished, but still have a long way to go.

I am getting impatient waiting for Anya to make her appearance...she's due in 1 week, but still....

***alas...I remembered what I wanted to post yesterday.

Trae got into the markers again...one washable, one permanent....of course I stood him on the table for the picture, this isn't normal conduct. Oh, and check out the Nuk...Trae decided at around 9 months that he didn't have a use for it anymore. He walked around with it for about an hour before grandpa showed up and took it away. Of course, it would have been taken eventually as we don't need to have to break him of it again, but he was so cute with it.

***We were driving home from my appointment, and Elliot and Brookelyn were discussing what they want to be when they grow up. (both want to be "photogafers") An argument broke out because Elliot doesn't want Brookelyn working at his work, but she says she'll work where she wants. She asked me, and I said brother's and sister's can work in the same place....

Brookelyn: "Yeah, we can work in the same place. I was thinking about what I wanted to be when I was in mom's belly."

Elliot:(laughing)"No, you weren't! Baby's are in a bag in there!"

Brookelyn: "Well, I was thinking about it IN the bag...I was in mom's belly, in a bag, and I was thinking that I wanted to be a photogafer."

Elliot: "Well, I wasn't in a bag, I was just inside her belly, not in a bag. And I was in there before you."

Brookelyn: "yeah, I KNOW that."

On a side note: Trae is a purebred monkey. (see above picture of him swinging from the chandelier) This morning, Elliot was running across the living room, up onto the coffee table and hopping off, and running back into our dining room.....with Trae in hot pursuit! I guess he was a tad slower, but up onto the coffee table he hopped and was all ready to jump off. I grabbed him before he did, and he started kicking and trying to get down. Then he started to "holler" about me foiling his attempt to jump off the coffee table. Unbelievable. I'm hoping for a really mellow 3rd son...oh, and I put a stop to this whole line of behavior...we DO NOT let our kids jump off the coffee tables!

Just waiting for Anya...

Baby stats....

I had my 32 week visit today. I am measuring 33 weeks, so I'm hoping I'm not in for a huge baby. I guess that's only 4 days ahead of what I am....his heartbeat was 138. At my next visit they are going to do blood work to make sure I'm not anemic, and then the visit after that they start checking me for dilation and effacement. Seems to have flown by, this pregnancy, and I guess delivery will be here before I know it. This morning I woke up to a horrible dream that Trae had cancer. I hate dreams like that that are so real and you can't shake the feeling of something being terribly wrong all day. I got a call from a friend with some news that totally blew me away and have had a hard time processing it. It's been a really weird day, and really makes me appreciate the health of my kids and the life we've got.

Buzz Cuts

I buzzed my boy's hair yesterday. Pretty cute....

7.25.2008

Yesterday I went down to Sheboygan to get Kimberly so she can watch the kids today...I have 3 shoots and a meeting with a couple to make sure they like my personality. Anyway, Nate and Marsha have 3 Bichon-Frise dogs, Luke, Lucy, and Leinus. Trae was playing fetch with them, and they'd bring the ball back and let him takw it out of their mouth. At one point, Luke dropped the ball, so Trae (picture this now) was still standing, but he bent down to pick the ball up with his mouth! To bad I didn't have a camera on hand. He also enjoyed playing in the twins' walker. His feet bent back behind him, but he had fun anyway. He'd stand along side it, lift his leg over, and climb in. He didn't have such an easy time getting out though, he had to wait for us to get him out. To bad they don't make a confinement device for kids his age! I think we'd need a cage for him....

7.24.2008

Well rested

I slept sooo good last night, up only once! I was up at 5:45am making bread because I was stiff from sleeping so long...went to bed @ 10:30pm. The kids are still asleep and I'm sleepy again, so I think I'll try to get some more sleep in. Brookelyn seems to be doing better....no puking since last night. Hopefully it was something she ate and not a virus the rest of us can catch.

***9am****Trae is still sleeping peacefully, if you can beleive that. Brookelyn convinced me to get up. I feel drunk from all the sleep.

Nipples and Puke

Brookelyn, my observant daughter, said this to me today.
Brookelyn: you see these? (pointing down at her nipples)
Me: Um, yeah.
Brookelyn: Well, you know big people, when they wear shirts, it looks like they have balls in there, but they don't. And Elliot and me and dad don't either, but when I get bigger I will, and it will look like I have balls in my shirt to.
Me: Hmm.

I was washing the kids place mats and some other big things and Trae was standing below me trying to get me to pick him up. It might be lack of sleep that made me find it hilarious when I kept over spraying the dishes and getting water all over him. After about the third time I dumped water on his head, he glared at me and left. Amazing I'd find this funny as Brookelyn just hurled all over the chair and I just finished dealing with that mess. It smelled very bad, almost like puke! Seems the stomach pains she had all through the night were the start of the stomach flu, which really sucks because we spent a few hours this afternoon over at a friends house and she owns a daycare. It always sucks anyway because it seems to spread from one family member to the next, which takes about a week and a half in our household.

Insomnia

So in typical pregnant Amber fashion, I have 8 weeks until my due date, and the insomnia has officially started! I finally got to bed around midnight last night, the night before it was 1am, but then I had to get back up to pee 148 times between then and when my kids got up at around 7:30. Anyway, last night I got to bed at midnight and only had to use the bathroom about 4 times, which was a big improvement. But then Brookelyn came in our room 4 times to say her belly hurt and she didn't have to go to the bathroom either. I told her to lay on her belly and try to go potty....probably a lot of jumbly stuff to, as I was dead tired. Trae woke up crabby and wanted to sit on my lap for breakfast, but I was eating oatmeal and I didn't want it spilled on his lap, or mine. Finally it cooled enough, so I got him up on my lap. About 3 seconds later, I feel a wet trickle down my leg....hmmm. Well, I guess I forgot to change his diaper right away, and he peed on me the second I lifted him on my lap! In case anyone cares, I have been absolutely starving lately. I try to eat something light, especially at night, hence the fudge ice cream topping I had last night while I couldn't sleep!
We have meeting here tonight, so I need to vacuum, dust, mop, etc....so I guess i'll get to that now.

7.22.2008

ha. i can't sleep and i've looked at everything interesting. i also ate smuckers hot fudge topping out of the jar with a baby spoon because it was the only one clean.

Talent show

Elliot did this trick on the monkey bars for the talent show. Everyone was a good sport and came outside to watch. He was really proud and so was I.

We thought the talent show was all over, and then they announced that they missed one. We had no idea that Brookelyn was going to be in it because she told us no, and then didn't tell us she changed her mind. The first picture is when she first went up to the front of the room. She seemed really nervous, and her friend told me that she was going to sing. She stood there for a few seconds, and I asked if she wanted me to sing one with her. She said nooo, like no one else's mom sang with them, and then her friend went up and said she'd start it with her. Of course, I was holding my breath because public speaking or singing is NOT my thing. We were all in suspense wondering what she would sing....I wish I'd had a video camera because it was so sweet what came out: "Oh, Christmas tree, oh Christmas tree, how evergreen your branches"...her voice was wavering and it was so cute I started to cry. The other little girl sang different words, and Brookelyn looked at her like "what?" and then she stopped singing and Brookelyn finished all but the last line. At that point, she looked up and noticed I was crying. After a short pause, the last line "how evergreen your branches" wavered out and she sat down. It was so cute and I was SO proud of her at that moment. Elliot was proud of her to, he was teary by the end.

Random family reunion stuff....

Brookelyn doesn't pose for pictures anymore, but if she's doing something she loves it's written all over her face.

Cuddle time with daddy

Trae on a mission
We took a lot of pictures of the kids swimming and stuff on our small camera....I haven't even looked at that disk yet. You'll have to use your imagination on those as I am getting really tired of waiting for pictures to post!

Horse back riding and feeding the ducks Saturday (after a round of golf)

The guys played a round of golf Saturday a.m. and then took the kids horse back riding and feeding the ducks while us girls went to a few thrift shops and a little strip mall. Elliot was happy to rise the horse, Brookelyn would only rise with Jason, but they had to talk her into it. We didn't score much shopping....Pam was the only one who bought anything...an orphan bear from the thrift store.

Hungry Horse

It's a tradition in the Baseman/Dykstra family to photograph the kids on this horse when they come to visit. I even got my picture taken on it when my family and Jason went out to visit 9 years ago!

Glacier Park, MT Friday, July 4, 2008

We went to Glacier Park on Friday. The park is really beautiful, it's hard to actually tell how awesome it is from the pictures. It took about 7-8 hours to drive to the top, eat lunch, and drive back down. We, of course, stopped to take pictures along the way.
***check out my photo journal for pictures of the scenery, I plan to post them sometime today. We'll see;)

I LOVE this picture of Elliot, it's just him.

Each of the kids got a bear from Jason's grandma and grandpa...Brookelyn kept hers pretty close. I love her messy hair in these pictures.

Elliot loved poking out through the sunroof and waving at people while we waited for the traffic to pass, as they are widening the road and it is one lane traffic in some spots. He was riding with Pam and Steve, so each time we got out, he'd tell us how many people waved to him.

Rainbow Trout fishing

As much as we'd love to say we caught trout this big in an actual lake, we have to admit that this was a trout farm. The guy who owns it also owns an assisted living complex and feeds the fish to the residents. He also raises buffalo and elk. He sells the fish for $4 a puond, and it was served for breakfast the next morning. The man would throw pellets in and we'd try to cast where he threw it. The fish would jump right out of the water to get the bait. It wasn't as easy as they made it sound, but it was fun. We did this a few hours after we got off the plane, and it was really hot. Trae slept in the truck almost the whole time, and didn't reel in a fish, but was content (for the most part, despite the heat) to watch.

heartburn has me awake:)

1. I can spread my toes really far apart....Jason and lots of other people seem to think this is a talent because they can't do it. I can also bend my fingers back really far.
2. My mom's friend called me Amber Du-Wop when I was younger.
3. I never wear panty hose. Ever.
4. I wish I had a personal masseuse. Oh, and a personal chef.
5. My feet are aching and swollen. Come to think of it, my whole body feels swollen and all my maternity capri's that I wear to shoot weddings are cutting off my circulation. So that means I have to get some that aren't under-the-belly fit, because I have weddings the next 5 weekends. Oh, and one more circulation thing...the under wire in my (to small) bra was digging into my armpit and my arm has been numb for about 2 hours. My girls grew in the last weeks, but don't worry, I bought a bigger bra tonight.
6. I've realized lately that loud noise REALLY bothers me. I just cringe...
7. I can read lips very well.

Comparison

This is Trae last night...this will likely go on the wall. It reminded me of the one of Elliot below.

This is Elliot at about 2 1/2
***this is a picture of a picture hanging on our wall...sorry about the glare!

Trae cut his right top eye tooth...finally! He also says "diapah, peez?" when he needs his diaper changed. The other night, Trae was crabby in the night so Jason grabbed him from his crib and brought him into our bed. I took him and realized he was stark naked. We got him diapered and back to bed, but he was commando in the morning again! He has only slept through the night once since we returned home from Montana...I called that one. He cut both his top eye teeth, but is working on the bottom two, so I think it might be awhile. Hopefully i'll be able to get a few weeks of good sleep before the next little guy comes along.

7.20.2008

Our weekend....

was busy and fun! We went to Logan's birthday party, which was really fun and all done up in monkeys. He was skeptical of his cake, but did manage to get a taste and then all was good. Misty, Casey, Nikki, Tony, Jason, Brookelyn, Trae, and I all decided that we were hot and decided to go to Bear Lake for a swim. The guys took the kayaks and went fishing and the kids swam...I stood in knee deep and watched them and my sisters thought it was to cold, so they vegged on shore. We crashed mom and dad's place (their not home)because Nikki and Tony are staying there to feed the animals and made pizza and brownies. Then we played a mean round of Cranium and left just as the storm moved in. Today we went to meeting and then lazed around the house and dozed....and I have another pan of brownies in the oven:0) Tomorrow I have one, possibly two shoots and Friday I have three. I'm still working the babysitter thing out for Friday, as I have to shoot during the day and all my usual babysitters are on vacation. I think Kimberly might be able to watch the kids though, so I'm hoping I'll hear from her tonight and can stop stressing about it. I'm waiting on my little niece to be born...she technically has until August 7 to make her appearance, but her mom and I think she should come now! I am starting to get more uncomfortable, but I'm trying to stay cool and in good spirits. Our little man has his feet everywhere...yesterday morning he must have had his leg stretched out because his little foot was sticking out the top of my belly about 2 inches! Anyhow, I have to go eat my fresh brownies, so I'll let this be all.

7.18.2008

It's what's for supper

I don't typically take or post pictures of food, but I made a lovely meal tonight and the colors were so pretty I decided to photograph it....I'm expanding my horizons on the creative front! We ate well and good.
**I posted some cool stuff on my photo blog as well, feel free to check it out.

Trae loves watermelon

Trae went into the tub to be cleaned up from the last snack of watermelon. Before I could get his diaper on, he discovered Elliot's leftovers on the table and dug in. So back into the tub he went. His butt is sooo cute, I couldn't resist.

...And they're off!

The plan was for Mom, Dad, Erica, and Elliot to be off to Minnesota fishing around 8am. Elliot was up at 6:30am asking when they'd be here. They showed up around 9:30am...

New words: fishing pole
New phrase: I got one! (when he shoots something)

Busy, busy week ahead. We have so much stuff to get done, but being so busy this summer has kept us from a lot. We have a list we are hoping to accomplish w/in the next week. This heat is getting unbearable, now I remember why I vowed never to be pregnant through the summer again!

7.17.2008

With Elliot I had NO stretchmarks on my belly...just on my hips.
With Brookelyn, I got a few about an inch up from the bottom of my belly.
With Trae, the few I had stretched up half way to my belly button.
With this (still un-named) little guy, the stretchmarks are now reaching my belly button.
Not that the things pregnancy does to my body bother me that much. I'd totally take them over a kid free life any day, I'm just making an observation. I suppose I'll have Jason take an updated belly shot so you can see my progress. My sisters seem to think I'm small. Regardless, I still feel like a whale rolling over in bed. Thankfully, the swelling has stayed to a minimum....a few more weeks and we'll be meeting our baby boy!

The story behind the pictures...

Elliot and Brookelyn both enjoyed the plane ride, for the most part....Elliot was excited at first, but he's afraid of heights, and the higher we got the more he freaked out. He started to cry a little (which made me cry) but soon he was just fine. Trae had a hard time staying awake as we were climbing, as did I. It felt like we were breathing in laughing gas! The picture of the kids sleeping is on our first flight home. They played hard and were exhausted.

The picture below Jason took of the sun over the wing of the plane.
